Good article. Amazing that you can buy and ship a gun faster than a case of wine.

Hi Dick, To the best of my knowledge only Federally licensed firearms dealers can receive firearms shipments accross state lines. If I want to purchase a handgun, I have to apply for a "permit to purchase" (good for 1 year) from my local police department, do the background check at the dealer, wait for the results, and then I can purchase a "pistole". Actually, I purchase lots of wine, and not very many guns.

Hmm......I haven't logged into NY times to read the article. But once the MY times gets away from commenting on harmless subjects, but it is useful to remember that this one of the most liberal newspapaers in the US. One that frequently needs to retract content as a result of it lacking factual support. But the stats are fairly clear that the social harm resulting from the improper use of firearms by lawful owners is dwarfed by the improper use of alchhol by lawful users. Not to say that I support shipping constraints on wine. But some folks have some funny notions about what's "reasonable" and we just confuse them with the facts that disprove their notions.
