Hello,I have used a few days to re-kt my cellar, it being now possible ti enter it without danger toi life and limb (said danger being e g having a bottle of 1988 vintage port falling down and hitting you over the head - fortunately they both survived) and also having a certain order in the cellar, Bourgognes being in one rack, Bordeaux in aNOTHER, Alsace in a third and so on.This gave me a bit of insight into several things. One was, that almost all the wines were too posh, expensive, old or all three to be drunk at almst any conceivable time except insofar as a gang of AFWers were to descend on the Lindgren family home in the hope of being entertained. Another was the lack of certain types of wine. It used to be that we lacked stickies - this is no longer the case, we have an ample supply of various sweet wines from Austria, Italy, France, Australia ... Likewise, fizzy wines have been in low supply, but today there are a few - mostly cheap-ish, it has to be admitted - too few Crystal, Salon, and Krug. Bother said Pooh. None of any of them, to be exact.What is a real problem is that we are running out of Italians, excepting Barolos that are slated for long-time cellaring. I have also relaised that we are deperately low on wines from the Iberian peninsula - particularly Spanish (I have found that I like Priorat a lot). I do believe we should also stock up on wines from the ANZAC part of the world - Cabs from Western Australia, Sauvignon Blanc from NZ ... the possibilities of ending in bankruptcy are limitless.I mean, I don't have to THINK about stocking up on Bourgogne, that happens automatically ... as does Rhone Valley and Southeastern France.SO, that is what we appear to need - pray tell me, what is missing in YOUR cellars?CheersNils

Actually, I tend to find the thing I don't buy enough of is lightfresh whites- Macons, sec-tendre Chenin blanc, lower end GrunerVeltliner and Riesling, etc. I probably should have more Champagne,too.I have a total of 3 Priorats, but I've discovered they don't ring mybells. Most of my small Spanish component is old style Rioja. CT tellsme that my cellar is 1/3 Bdx and 1/4 Burg. Overall 72% French, with 9%each Italy and Germany. Not especially balanced, but that's what Ilike to cellar. Not the same as what I drink, because less expensivewines aren't entered in CT, they don't last that long.

Re-stocking the cellar ... what is missing?

Nothing wrong with German wines, I have some 30 bottles, almost all of it Riesling, and at least twice that of Alsace of the four noble varietals (and two bottles of PN). We tend to stop by Dirler-Cadé in Bergholz when going down for the summer holidays and stock up on their Riesling and PG from named localities - good QPR. They stay put for several years and even develop a bit - though not as much as their GCs (particularly Riesling) which develop beautifully over the years.

Well, at least in my little cultural backwater, all savings in banks are gov't insured up to $250,000, so small investors lose nothing if a bank goes under. Since the loans are the bank's assets, the receivers will try to get what they can from them, but loan resolution agreements are far from uncommon.

I have about a case or so of German wines, less of Alsace. Where I am really deficient is Austrian wines, firstly because we keep drinking them and secondly because of the stiff price increases we've seen over the past 2-3 years. As much as I like Austrian Riesling, I can't easily justify the expense of most of them (though I still get a few such as Schloss Gobelsburg's).
