recommendations for a winery near SLO or Morro Bay?

We were visiting Morro Bay/SLO for a couple of days. Would love to visit a nice winery (or 2) and take a tour. Any recommendations ? I searched through the group and came up with a huge list, so wanted to narrow it down to 1 or 2 wineries.

Nice architecture, Landscaping is a plus.

thanks a lot in advance, tarak

The closest area with several to visit would be Edna Valley just to the south of SLO.

These all have nice wineries, picnic grounds etc.

If you have the time eat breakfast or lunch at Fat Cats which is in Port San Luis (near Avila Beach). Best breakfast you'll ever have and nice ocean views. It's a locals place, not too touristy.

I'm no expert on the area, but you're not that far (assuming you have car) from Paso Robles, and I highly recommend Tablas Creek. Not just for the quality of the wine(high), but for the enthusiasm/dedication/ geekiness of the staff.

And a nearby food rec, from a trip last year: An article appeared in the NY Times just before I left detailing a writer's search for tacos between LA and SF. We detoured off 101 to the coast highway to Cayucos visit Ruddell's Smokehouse. Gringo tacos, but well-worth the detour. I was especially fond of the smoked pork tacos, piled high with meat, lettuce, apple, and more. A smoked ahi taco wasn't far behind. The loquacious owner was surprised that he was getting so much attention from an article in an East Coast paper. The cute thing was he had a maybe 10 year old boy (grandson?) helping him out. The Ruddels tacos were better than the fish, calamari, or carnitas tacos at Taco Loco in Laguna Beach (though even the Laguna tacos are ahead of NYC).

None of the wineries in the Paso area is much more than 30 minutes from any other, really, and tasting by appointment (if Tablas Creek is) only means you have to call in advance and be there at a certain time. No big deal really. To get to Tablas Creek you drive close by Turley, Hunt, Opolo, Norman, and Justin (maybe the best), is just beyond Tablas Creek.

None of them are particularly memorable for architecture or gardens, I don't think, but the wine is great.

Any of the wineries in the Paso Robles area or even down toward Santa Barbara are close to Morro bay. I believe the FAQ contains information on Paso Robles and Los Olivos is another 1/2 drive from SLO.

I believe the closes wineries to SLO are in Edna Valley just to the south. Many people seem to pass up this are a for the better known Paso Robles to the north or the Solvang, Buellton, Los Olivos and Foxen Trail wineries further to the south.

Edna Valley is a very nice scenic area to spend a day.
