TN: Musigny Vieilles Vignes 1990, Comte de Vegue, bottle No. 00099

I bought 3 bottles of Musigny Vieilles Vignes 1990, Comte de Vegue at auction shortly after release and have stored it properly. This is my first bottle of it or any top 1990 red Burgandy to open. There were no cork or other issues.

The wine is still young, but quite ready to drink. It likely will develop a bit more complexity with 10 or 20 more years of proper storage. It still shows nearly no evidence of age around the rim, and the color is still deep for a red Burgandy. It has an intense, clean bouquet and taste of dark and red fruit with hints of flowers and spices. The tannins are fairly soft and under control. I rate it near the top of red Burgandy I have had at this stage of development. I also have some of the 1988 which I have given tasting notes here in the past. It has matured considerably more slowly than the 1990, but the 1988 could equal or exceed the 1990 with 10 to 20 more years of age.
