2000 Dugat Py Charmes-Chambertain GC

I spent that last few days at my farm dealing with spring issues and was a bit tired yesterday from cutting hay, mucking stalls and working with young horses. I rummaged through the freezer and found some venison ribs so I thawed them, threw them in the smoker and cold smoked them for about an hour then seasoned and roasted them on the grill for about 2 hours at a low temp. Total experiment that turned out well with grilled hearts of romaine and fresh spring peas with mint. I knocked back a couple of Bell's Brewing Two Hearted Ale IPA which were quite tasty and refreshing with a firm hoppy zing and a nice spice and citrus note. Just buzzed enough to be dangerous in the cellar I found a bottle of 2000 Dugat Py Charmes-Chambertain so I opened it for dinner. Really dark purple in the glass, effusive nose of cassis and blackberry with a farily substantial anise component. Big and fruity on the palate. Plenty of ripe blackberry and blueberry, a bit of Asian spice with a long lingering finish of black cherries and earth. Good match for the venison. it could use some time. A solid "A".
