Until a few years ago, I used to frequently buy an inexpensive Greek red wi ne called Demestica, made by Achaia Klauss. It was sold at wine shops in N ew York City, where I live. But since then, this wine has become impossibl e to find in NYC stores. I've done some web searches recently, but many on line dealers list this wine as "Out of stock".
Does anyone know if this wine is still obtainable? And if so, where I migh t get it? Thanks! Regards,
Thanks for the tip! As for a general explanation, I just called the importer, Stellar Importing Co. They told me that Achaia Clauss, the winery that made Demestica, has been closed for a year now. :(
The (potentially) good news is that Stellar suggested what they say is a similar wine:
"The replacement wine is called ZACHARIAS, AMBELOS PHOS RED and it is distributed by OPICI Wines. Any wine shop can get it for you from OPICI Wines. The price is the same as DEMESTICA."
The free version of Winesearcher.com lists 6 suppliers in the USA (not all for the red version admitedly) - the pro version a couple of pages. Also the winery website is still up, and they were posting on Facebook last month.
I suggest that anyone who cares should contact the winery through FB or their website to find out what is really happening.

Thanks for your skepticism & encouragement. :) I heard back from Achaia Clauss. They are still very much in business. Seems they had some kind of dispute with Stellar Imporing Co. They are now negotiating for a new supplier in the USA.
Here's an update: I tried ordering Demestica Red from sellers in Florida a nd California listed by winesearcher.com as having it, only to be told that it's unavailable. This actually makes sense, considering that someone at the winery (Achaia Clauss) just wrote me that they are currently negotiatin g for "a new importer to take on our brands nationwide" [in the USA].
That said -- anyone know how I might order this wine (Achaia Clauss Demesti ca Red) from a supplier outside of the USA? It's an inexpensive wine, and the shipping might well cost more than the wine itself. But I really love this wine!
No idea about importing into the USA, but here are the US suppliers from Wine-Searcher Pro. I presume you can find the merchants using google without too much trouble.
