TN: 2002 Guenoc Chardonnay

The nose had a nice citrus pear smell but not very strong. There was plenty of oak showing through also. The taste took a couple of minutes to identify. Rotten apples. I cleared my palette three times to make sure it was not the fish that I was drinking it with. Before you buy a 2002 Guenoc know this. 2002 is the last real vintage of this winery which is owned by the Magoon family of Hawaii. Orville Magoon has been the manager and winemaker then for more years than are on my calendar. Last August he decided that he had had enough of the business and canceled all his grape contracts at the last minute which has spawned many lawsuits. Then in October, he just left for the friendly skies of San Francisco. It is a substantial operation with a lot of land involved and is not going to be abandoned but I don't think there was any 2003 vintage. Miss Lillie is turning over in her grave.
