wine

I am trying to help a friend who is looking at doing some promotion work this Christmas by giving away bottles of wine and bubbly for any orders placed.

Where is the best place to buy wine in bulk? Any offers? Also to send via royal mail any packaging solutions? Is royal mail the best way to send it?

Appreciate your help and comments. Thanks.

Quite right for private individuals but do not forget the Duty and VAT complications there would be if this was not to be used for th personal consumption of the person who imports it and accompanies it whilst doing so.

Oh right. Better not then as someone from C&E might be undercover in his firm.

Then there are others who are annoyed by paying double the amount for wine and then travel for less than an hour to buy it cheaper.

I agree with that but the answer may not be to advocate smuggling - which still causes problems for those caught or even suspected of it - but to press for changes in the law. Anyway I was not concerned with the morality or equity of the suggestion that a business should buy wine in France duty free to use for its business in the UK; my comment was meant as a warning to anybody innocent enough to think that it was legal to do so - I had assumed Linger was in that category. If he was not it would surely have provided rather fuller information by putting a Customs & Excise Health warning on his package of suggestions.

I'm sure that C&E have bigger fish to fry than a chap who is going to buy a few bottles of wine for his associates.

What you mean is whilst they are searching and counting bottles of a small fish a big whale carrying a load of illegal immigrant fish just swims by.
