Advice concerning pairing SGN Gewürztraminer 1994

Jan 31, 2006 8 Replies

Hello; One of my tasting groups will have a convivium late in March. Theme is to be Gewürztraminer, and we are supposed to bring the dessert. We have a bottle of SGN Gwz 1994, but what would be a suitable pairing?

TIA!

Cheers

Foie gras? Oh, dessert? Well, were you Bill Spohn you'd probably go for foie gras :-)

Your own 'Systembolaget' suggests 'Oriental orange salad' (?) for this one: Altenberg de Bergheim Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles 1997 (nr

2193) Alsace Grand Cru (Domaine Marcel Deiss)

Personally I´d rather have a pinot gris with foie gras - I find Gwz too overpowering - a terrine de foie gras is after all a rather delicate creature ...

Anders, I resent the implication taht I should in any way whatsoever be responsible (as if I were the owner) of the Systembolaget !!!! (This said after trying to find a single bottle of the quite quaffable white sweety Italian "I Capitelli" in Southern Sweden.) Tongue held firmly in cheek, of course. Firmly held in cheek.

Wurrlll ... OK ... not terribly exciting, is it .... in that case I could as well do a sallad of lichee, grapefruit filets, and rose leaves, with a mango flavored pannacotta ....

Cheers!

You mean this one from the Norwegian 'Vinmonopolet'?:

40731 Roberto Anselmi I Capitelli 2002 37,5cl kr 129,90 Anselmi Veneto Italia Bestillingsutvalg Laget av: Garganega, chardonnay Alkoholinnhold: 12,5% vol. Importør: Gaia Wine & Spirits Distributør: VSD

A mere 300 miles drive for you to get it :-) Anders

That´ll be the day - when I get in my little Volvo and drive (calculates)

400 km (where did you get 300 miles?) to buy wine in NORWAY! The one place on Earth even worse than Sweden in regards to alcohol policies, and that is saying _lots_.

Last time we had "I Capitelli" it was a rather nice if slightly unassuming accompaniment for the dessert (mango fool if I remember correctly).

NOOO Mike - that was their "I Capitelli" we were discussing - obviously we have digressed a long way from the original topic ... which was, pairing with a SGN Gwz 1994 (René Sparr I think - don´t recognize the producer). What would _you_ have as a dessert with that wine?

Cheers

Now that makes sense. Domo sensei, abayo!

Such as munster and epoisse, no doubt. Well, it's a thought. My own single SGN Gwz experience was an SGN from Ostertag, no less, but I thought it a bit of a disappointment - my expectations had been higher :(
