Ready, Passed or hold?

As most regulars are aware, my knowledge of French wines and vintages is marginal, and so I appeal to your knowledge on some wines I re-discovered in a cellar corner. I think one at least will be well past it's date, but the reds I am quietly confident with...*hoping*

  1. 1995 E.Guigal Cote Rot'e

  1. 1998 Chateau Plantey, Graves.

  2. 1996 Chateu Beaumont, Cru Bourgeois, Haut-Medoc.

thanks in advance

Matt, the first wine should be in good shape. '95 was a strong year in the N. Rhone and Guigal's entry-level Cote-Rotie is a decent, if not transcendent, example of the genre. I'd have to look up the other two wines to give you anything useful about them.

I'd agree the '95 Cote-Rotie should be fine (and able to hold for a while) Never heard of Plantey, but would drink up. Unclear if it's a white or if you only listed reds.Either way I'd pop soon). Beaumont is a decent cru Bourgeois, '96 was strong on left, I'd assume like many smaller '96s it would be in its drinking window.

Yes, the Cote Rotie and the Beaumont should be fine. You could hold either for several years (given good storage, yada yada) with no problem. I have some Beaumont from the mid 80s still, it's doing OK. (well known necrooenophiliac, yada yada).

Beaumont was featured at on of the big chain wine fairs here in France this year, at a very fair price. It sold out on the first day, showing this wine has a considerable following. Unfortunately I went on the second day and didn't get any.

Don't know the Plantey either, sorry.
