Visits to the following Bordeaux chateaux...

Hi all,

With the help of my destination hotel's reception I've booked visits to the following chateaux:

Chateaux Pichon Longueville (Pauillac) Chateaux Lascombes (Margaux)

Anybody else visited these chateaux? Does anyone have any recommendations, things to see while I'm there, perhaps vintages to taste/purchase, other stuff in the area?

I understand these wines will be expensive, and as part of tasting I'm happy to purchase a few bottles too. I'm not exactly a millionaire though and so won't be bringing a truck load back.

I'm relatively new to Bordeaux... I guess you could just say "buy what you like" (and with good reason) but I'm looking for some decent starting points, and perhaps some more travel tips for the region (I've read the excellent resource here:

Many thanks, Dan

Salut/Hi Dan Gravell,

You might be surprised to find that you can't buy from the Chateau. I've often - but not always - found that to be the case.

If you want to try a property with no reputation, but with an _excellent_ quality/price ratio, you could try the Ch Lalande de Gravelongue. Michael Pronay introduced me to the wine, and we agreed that it was excellent, especially the cuvée "La Croix"

I can't find their address on a quick skim through, so if you are interested, (they're right in the north of the Medoc) I can dig it out for you, fairly easily.

€16 or so a bottle do? That was their excellent 2000 "La Croix" in 2003.
