TN: '05 Gobelsburger Riesling

Last night, with a Thai dinner, we opened:

2005 Schloss Gobelsburg "Gobelsburger" Riesling nose: minerals, peaches, lime, a hint of tropical fruit palate: dry, somewhat creamy mouthfeel, peaches and lime, clean finish

In my ongoing campaign to get Jean to like Riesling, I purchased this Austrian Riesling. I've really liked the Gobelsburger GV in the past (a good QPR choice) so gave this similarly priced Riesling a try... and very glad I did. Both of us liked this a lot, Jean found yet another dry Riesling to her liking, and it went well the yellow chicken curry. Well worth the $14 I paid for it.

How is your campaign going? I have utterly failed with my wife who thinks they are all too fruity for her.

Well, I'd say. After years of naysaying all Riesling, she has now embraced a number of QbAs and Kabinetts from Germany and (as my post showed) now Austria, too. I still have to try a Trimbach CFE on her, but so far so good. In her case, the key is that she likes the drier styles with stonefruit character: when they start shading toward petrol or citrus, she loses interest.

Good luck with your own quest, Larry. You're fighting the good fight! ;-)

It is disappointing as German Reislings are among my favorite wines. I have to force a whole bottle down myself. Alas!
